Getting Friendship Out Of The Group Chat

The Girl, Get After It community was built with the hopes of connecting women through an active lifestyle, wellness retreats, work out classes and online book clubs in order to open the door for women to find connections in cities all over the country. We asked the Girl Get After it Community on Instagram for their best ways to make friends and the gals delivered. Here are some of our favorite ideas for getting the friendship out of the group chat.

Host a clothing or home goods swap.

What’s not to love about free new to you clothes? It’s a great chance to hang out, be social and get some new swag. It’s also a low pressure way to text girls you just met and get connected. It’s a Win Win.

Be an open minded active listener.

Who doesn’t love talking to someone who is genuinely kind and listens? Being an open-minded active listener not only fosters deeper connections but also creates a space where individuals feel truly heard and valued.

Remember the important moments.

Did your friend tell you she was nervous about a presentation at work? Set a reminder to send an encouraging text the morning of. Be the hype girl your friend needs. Plug in birthdays, anniversaries and any other significant life event of friends and cheer them on when it matters. Or even better, treat them to a celebration after they accomplish a goal.

Run errands together

Need to make a Target run? Invite a friend and make a day of it. Grab some coffee and hit those summer garage sales or peruse your favorite downtown shops.

Be intentional.

Embrace the thirty seconds of awkwardness and tell them “Hey! You seem cool, let's swap numbers and hang out”. Don’t be afraid to initiate a friendship by getting phone numbers and reaching out.

Make actual plans.

This one kind of stings a little, but it’s true. We can all do a tad bit better at abandoning “let’s get together soon” and start setting real dates. Simply asking, “Hey, are you free Friday?” will get that friendship out of the group chat and into real life.

Have people over for dinner.

Who doesn’t love a home cooked meal they didn’t have to cook themselves? It’s also a valid reason to try that new recipe you saw on Instagram and food always brings people together.

Meet up for an after work hike or neighborhood walk.

A chill exercise activity and socializing at the same time- sign us up!  Who doesn’t love a casual workout buddy?

Weekly/Monthly photo dumps to stay in the loop.

A picture’s worth a 1000 words so why not break down your week or month with a friend by sharing photos of what went on. Such a fun and creative way to stay connected to friends near and far.

Give friendship time to form.

Yes! Besties don’t happen overnight. Deep friendships, like a good sourdough starter, take time and require effort. Have some patience when it comes to making friends… and bread.

Whether it's a spontaneous garage sale shopping date, a laughter-filled dinner party, or a leisurely neighborhood walk on a Tuesday, let's make the effort to deepen our bonds and cultivate lasting friendships. Here's to getting friendship out of the group chat and into real life.
